Default rust underneath exterior window trim

The metal underneath the exterior trim on my doors is rusting and crumbling off. Is there a prescribed way to fix this other than getting new doors?

Do you have a photo?
Is this under the rubber around the window or inside under the door? Under the door handles?
What year is it?

its a '95... the rust is under the exterior window trim on the bottom of the windows on both doors. I can take a pic, just not at the moment

EDIT: the rust is not on the door panel itself, I think it's the metal that holds the window trim on, since the more it crumbles the more the trim lifts away from the doors.

EXACTLY!! They list it as "anti-rattle"... wonder if I could just rip them off and forget about it? I think that without them it would let snow and other crap down into the door though.

really cool resource, too. Thanks a bunch drppdyllwrngr!!

they are needed to help support the glass as well. you can't just leave them off.

They have rusted out on my truck also, I bought a tube of RTV Black for a caulk gun, and just laid a nice heavy bead and all is fixed.

$20 a piece sounds good to me. That LMC place had them listed at $50/ea iirc.

Good stuff. Guess I'll be adding these to my Christmas list. I'm almost 30 but my family still asks me what I want for Christmas... If I don't come up with anything it's usually pants and shirts. This Christmas it's gonna be tires and anti-rattle window trim!

The outside trim piece immediately below the window is called a "Belt molding". Tasca Parts lists them for $23.11 for either side. They apparently are difficult to install on Rangers. I've heard groans from several body shop people when installation of them was mentioned. It's very easy to "skin" the paint off the door at the back where the window frame curves up when installing them.

i've had them on and off my truck several times. takes about 10 minutes tops. you do need to remove the door panel to get to the mirror bolts. once the mirror is off, they just pop right off.
