you can put them in any tail lights you want. I have aftermarket tails in my 04 with dual L1224R.

Would this work on a 97? And would I have to modify the tail lamp lense assembly or just the socket?

It will work fine on a 1997, no difference.
you just have to modify the sockets that come with the kit. A new harness comes with the kit and these are color coded so you can connect them to your existing wiring.

So I need to cut the retainer bit off of a Ranger socket to make the light stay in with the new sockets?

Rich...I'd get different taillights so you can use these to their fullest potential.

Here is a link to my For Sale thread.
http://www.fordrangerforum.com/class...-stock-il.html
The sockets your truck came with will come out and not be used. You will be given new ones to modify so you don't have to mess with your originals. There is a thread by STL showing good photos I will try and find them.

What would you recommend? My right tail is broken at the moment any way, trailer and I had a disagreement, so I was going to replace them anyway

I just saw your for sale thread. And I was planning on getting some to modify lol I'd like to keep my stock ones as back up.

something more clear....more liquid. Not fogged up like those old school housings are. Like 01+ stock tails or maybe even something aftermarket ebay type.

This might be a dumb question but do those fit in my truck with out a lot of crap? I like those better than my tails anyway, I haven't found a lot of tails in the aftermarket I like

He has a 97, it is better to stick with the dual bulb type.
I modified my 04 to work with the dual bulb 93-2000 type, why not just use these?
My tails were 50$ shipped I think? I have Evo-"look alike" tails.

There are a huge selection of 93-2000 tails online not just the ones I have, any dual bulb will work.

I highly recommend the lights
I have had a few people ask me about them. When I had my wreck and they we fixing the truck. The guy fixing it was interested in them also.
They are extremely bright with brake lights on. I have been sitting at a traffic light and the street sign behind me 500 ft away is lite up with my brake lights
