Default Mud flap issue?

Hello,
I have thick flat rubber mud flaps would it be better to use self drilling ss screws instead of just drilling and using the metal screws with kit?dig

If it's easy to mark the holes in the mudflap, and then pull it out and make the holes with a drill then do that.
How do you know that the screws that came with the kit won't punch through the thick rubber? Do you think everything will shift out of place when you shoot the screws?

If you think self tapping screw will go through rubber easier than regular screws I can tell you they probably won't.
