Default Undercoat?

So i have a buddy who ued to do undercoating who says you cant undercoat a stepside ranger because the rear fenders will boil because theyre fiberglass and the oil based undercoat eats rigth through. are there any safe options or do i just take the fenders off before i undercoat?

I'm getting ready to do the inside of my stepside. I plan to use U Pol's Gravitex. I've sprayed it in an Avanti, which is a fiberglass car. So I don't see where it would work. I have never heard of anything like that before, but will be watching here to see what others say.

Excuse the noob, but whats an "undercoat" entail? I assume its coating the underside of ... something, but what specifically and why?

Well salt on the road in the winter and salt seabreeze all year makes for lots of rust on any exposed metal, so you undercoat your cars and trucks to protect against it.
