You have to sand the living S#!+ out of the chrome for anything to stick. I would sandblast em

I painted my stock chrome bumper with DupliColor bedliner in a can. The bumper was already tweaked and dented so I wanted to expiriment. All I did to prep it was scuff it with 220 or so, then adhesion promotor and then automotive grey Rust Oleum primer. Then on went the bedliner. Results were very beefy and strong. Only way to take it off was using chemical stripper. Which just so happens to be what I used to take the bumper back to chrome.

I had it coated for almost 4 years and the only chip in the bumper is when I was pissed and wacked it with a 4lb hammer. You can see it in the 2nd pic to the right of where the lisence plate should be.

Also did my valence and flares in a similar fashion. Here's some pics...

BTW.... honestly. You don't want the roll-on Herculiner or whatever on your body panels IMO. The finish is VERY rough and you must clean it with a scrub brush, not a wash mit. That's one of the reasons I loved the Dupli-Color rattle can stuff because as you can see from the close-up shot, it actually comes out fairly smooth, yet textured depending on how you spray it. The farther back you spray from the piece, the more textured it is. But it'll never be super rough like the roll-in bed kits and whatnot.

That's my 2cents.

Did you do anything different for the flares and valance, or was it all the same?

I am thinking the same thing. I ordered the dye for the plastic valences, but It would probably look better if those were rhino lined as well. Did you do anything special to prep the plastic? I worry about painting the plastic and then have it start peeling off in the car wash...

I did my old ranger like shanes. Turned out very nice and is easy to clean. The hardest part is getting it to stick. I sanded the shit out of my bumpers and after about a year and a few months it started to chip.

tbarr- I hope the stuff you used isnt too ruff. Like shane said, Its a pita to clean. I was going to do the same on my old truck and after I did research I decided not to.
