Post Headlight ?'s

I've been thinking about doing something with my headlights i'm just not sure what I wanna do yet. The headlights on it now just are not bright enough. Drivin home at night on tight curvy roads isn't too fun when you can't see good. Not to mention all the deer. I kinda like that white look, they look good and they seem to be pretty bright. I was looking at the silverstar ultra, has anyone tried those? What about these HID lights I see people taking about, what exactly is that?

Thanks for the help

HID stands for High Intensity Discharge they come in many different colors 5000K and 6000K are the popular ones. the 8000K and up you could get in trouble from local law enforcement. I have seen people around here getting busted with them

I have the Silverstar ultras they are great I would suggest doing the fog light mod so when you have your high beams on your fog lights will stay on also.

So the ultra's are pretty bright then. I started to buy some the other week but the guy at autozone said he wasn't sure when I asked if they were really bright, and when I said can I bring em back if they ain't he said no your just outta luck. Figured they wouldn't take em back anyways just thought it was worth a shot. So anyways I figured I'd ask one here first. Is HID expensive?

Thanks for the help

Eyesight isn't equally sensitive to all colors and best at 4000-5000. The blue range has been known to cause accidents because it confuses/irritates oncoming cars. Increasing wattage helps. My most successful improvements have been to eliminate the voltage drops at the headlights but using relays to bypass the wiring losses. Measure the difference between the voltage at the headlight and the voltage at the battery, you might be shocked at what you find.

phillips xtreme power bulbs
Am i the only one who has these???
they have a 80% more light output than regular halogen bulbs
without the stupid looking blue-ish color. (which is terrible for rain soaked roads)

I Googled to learn XP lifetime which is the evil downside of bright. Phillips admits to running the filament hotter which greatly life. But apparently, the gas they are using doesn't hurt life much, something like 175 hours against 300.

This evening I used my headlights, red Italian car. Since I rarely drive at night I was quite mindful of the results. My 55/60W Hella originals have relay voltage boost (relay voltage boost also reduces life) and the concentrated brightness (whiter than white) blows you away, I can't imagine anything brighter. But they probably won't last a year. I have friends which went to 95W bulbs for the same brightness as my relays provided.

One thing I didn't like, in the video
the light is spread all over the road rather than the specific area way out front I'm interested in. My Hella H4 are more focused but judging by a video can be misleading. I would definitely pop for the Phillips H4 XP next time around.
