Default tail lights not working???

I just bought a 2002 Ranger XLT 2wd and the rear tail lights are not working. Front lights turn signals ect are working and when I put the turn signal on it is going real fast. Anyone know what this can be, I don't even know where to start.

have you checked all your fuses? do any of the rear lights work at all? if your fuses are good crawl under the back of your truck and look for a large wiring harness that will run down the left side (drivers side) inner frame rail. follow it back towards the rear bumper and there will be a plug connector, make sure its plugged in. thats where the tail lights plug in to the truck wiring. see picture below:

NOTE: your plug might be more difficult to see if you have a spare tire under there.

It was the plug!!! It was unplugged from when my Fiances brother was working on it. Now I just need to find a place to make me some exhaust pipes since the old ones won't fit from when we lowered it, lol

You need to remember that fast turn signals mean a bulb (or two) has burnt out (or the plug open) which reduced the current load on the flasher.

Slow turn signals mean a short in the circuit which increases the current load on the flasher.

Since you've taken care of the plug, next time you notice a fast indicator, take a turn around the truck to inspect the lights and replace the one which went out.
