Default Flareside "Step" Support Replacement

Has anyone replaced or fabricated a replacement for the step support bracket "boxes" on a flareside?

there are support "boxes" under the step that help fasten the fiberglass side panels to the actual box. the attach at the box pillar. (see photo)

on my current flares box the boxes and the pillars are missing and i attached the step to the frame with an "L" bracket and a flat extension.

i am replacing my box with the one you see in the photo and while the pillars are rock solid the "box" support are there but rotted.

in my head its a easy fix with a metal brake and some steel but i i am not sure.

i am hoping someone has fabricated one in the past and has "plans" or maybe someone has a better solution.
