Third Brake Light Socket Melted
I was putting my new gasket on my third brake light and noticed that the socket for my third brake light bulb was melted. There wasn't a special bulb in there just the regular 906. Has anyone else had this problem before.

Re: Third Brake Light Socket Melted
i've seen it a million times with the ones i do led conversions on.
i think when the bulbs are about to die, they overheat & melt the sockets. i've had a few that were melted down to the contacts inside.
as long as the connectors are ok & it locks in the back of the housing, you should be ok.
i'd brush some dielectric grease in the socket before putting in new bulbs or led's so they won't stick as much.

Re: Third Brake Light Socket Melted
Thanks for the reply,
My main concern was it starting a fire, I put a new bulb in and cut away some of the melted plastic. I'll try putting some of that dielectric grease on as well.

So today I bought an LED bulb and put it in. Seems to work good, hopefully wont melt again.

Re: Third Brake Light Socket Melted
Mine melted too on a couple of my Rangers, common issue, rock auto has replacements if it doesn't fit back in anymore...

Re: Third Brake Light Socket Melted
Thanks for the replies,
I think I caught it in time, it still holds the bulb and with a little force it goes back into the housing.
For the leaking third brake light I used the replacement foam gasket from eBay. It worked well on my first ranger, I hope it does the same for my new one.
