Default Towing a pop up

Hi everyone Mac Mclean here, just bought a 2002 ranger.
It has a 1 7/8 ball on the rear bumper.
My question is can this ball on the bumper haul a 1200 lb pop up or should I take it to Uhaul to have a stronger one installed?

Thanks

IIRC, I believe you can pull up to 1500lbs from the bumper. Tongue weight is what Id be more concerned about.

Hate to be that guy, but just because you can, doesn't mean you should. Get a hitch that is bolted to the frame, much safer way to go. You can get them online for 100-150 dollars and as long as you can follow instructions, shouldn't take very long to install.

I wouldn't feel comfortable hauling even this with a bumper hitch.

Yea, as much as I hate to tell you to spend more money you dont really want. Pick up off amazon the right drawtite class 3 hitch for your truck.. that bumper hitch is good for like a 10 ft aluminum fishing boat only..

I think mine was about $126 shipped minus the dog-leg and 2" ball.

I use to pull a 16' aluminum fishing boat with mine on the bumper, once was enough.
My truck new didn't come with a receiver type hitch and I really wanted to go fishing that day and didn't have time to put the hitch on.
I put the hitch on the next day and never pulled from the bumper again., at stops and goes it felt like the bumper was flexing in and out.

I've pulled a 600lb four wheeler on a bumper for thousands of miles with no issues. With that said, at 1200lb, I'd definitely be looking for a hitch for that much weight. If you don't want to spend that much for a new one, check out junk yards in your area. I'm sure you can find a ranger with one on the back. Hit it with a wire wheel and some paint....good as new.
