Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
Yes I did read it but it says nothing about putting a 04-06 on a 96 and if everything meats together at the door right I just don't want the body lines to be off and the space between the door and fender to be off!

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
98+ = 98-10. if you can put a 07 front end on a 98 without problems, it will go on a 93-97 as well.

Thanks! The bumper mounts aren't an issue...it'll have a pre-runner bumper.

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
Also, 98+ conversions on '93-'97, you will have to modify the front cab mounts. Since the frames are wider on 98+.
Also, make sure to leave about a big finger width gap between the front of the fender to the top of the core support. Don't butt the core support to the fender, this will thro off the header panel and you will have a curved look on the grill/lights.
Don't ask how I know
I have 2000 front end on my 97, been there done that!

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
How much difference is in a 96 cor support and a 06 cuz I'm buying a 2006 front clip that's all aftermarket but I was gonna keep my 96 core and just try to weld or bolt the hood latch in place ! Does this sound doable?

It might be, you wont know until you get into it tho.
you need the core support because of the hood. It is raised. And you will have difficulties with the header panel trying to use 06 on 96 core.

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
also, the 98+ fenders won't sit over the core support without cutting them up.
in this pic, core support is 98+. inner fenders are 93, and fenders are 98+. see how the inner fender doesnt' slope down like the core support and fender? you would either have to cut that section out of the fender, or put the new core support in. but if you cut the fenders and use the old core support, you will have to make/modify all the brackets for the header panel, hood latch, etc. about the same amount of work to do the core support. the hood will fit with the old, you just have to make the hood latch fit.

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
Well what all is involved in removing and replaceing a core support on a 96 as in what welds and what do I need to renforce wile the core is off ?and what do I mod on the 06 to make it fit ? Also where should I get the 06 core ? New aftermarket , used from a junk yard and just cut if off ? And that well solve the hood latch problem right ?
Also what do I do about the hood hinge because I don't see any way to remove it from the body of the truck

Removing the core is kinda a PITA. there are a buch of spot welds that have to be cut. But, since your putting in a new support, just cut the outta the old core.
I would take the fenders off first. This way you have room to work on the core support.
And with the front cab mounts, you'll want to probably weld in some 1/4" plate, but remember its a 1/4" higher so you might want to take it back off the rubber mount.
----------
My entire front clip was aftermarket. I did not have any problems with anything fitting.

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
yeah, pull the front sheet metal, then there are about 20 spot welds per side. get a spot weld cutter and cut them out. i highly suggest getting an oem core support, but an aftermarket one can work. hood hinge is welded in as well. search here or rps for explorer hinge and you should find a good trick how to put them back in.

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
Wow that seems like a lot I found a write up on a guy in a differend forum with a red ranger he did his 97-06 swap with out doing the hood bracket or core support I think I'm gonna do it that way cuz I'm useing all aftermarket parts it seems pretty easy what he did ! All he did was bend the hood bracket cut the new fender so fit made all new holes to mount and test fited the hood latch with clamps intell it worked right then bolted it to the old core support

can you take a bumper from an 01 to 03 edge and install to a 99 without changing the grill?

Re: Front End Swap guide 1998-2000
hey how are you guys. Im new to the site. I have a 97 ranger regular cab. After some of your help I have started to convert my 97 to a 05. I have already changed out the core support header panel hood fenders. everything on drivers side hood hinge new hood latch. Im almost ready to paint. Only problem is I cant figure out how to attach the front bumper. i bought a 05 edge front bumper which is metal on the top and plastic on the bottom.
I saw someone put you have to make some brackets. Do you have in detail what to do or where to get the brackets. I bought the two side metal brackets from the dealer. but still havent figured out how to make them work. I dont want to buy the other two brackets that are supposed to mount the the frame cause i know my frame is diffferent from a 98.
PLease help lol. Ive been trying to put this bumper on for 3 days now. !! Thanks for all your help.
