Recommend a tonneau style
Folks - new to Rangers, and pickups in general. I'm using my Ranger mostly for hauling and light reno/construction use, but I'm also a musician and plan to use the truck for transport to gigs as well. I don't really need a tonneau for the first purpose, but really need one for the latter to keep my gear (not cheap!) at least dry. There are a lot of styles out there: roll up, tri-fold, etc. What's your recommendation for someone who is going to keep the bed open most of the time, but needs to be able to extend the cover quickly and by myself when needed? Thanks in advance.

Go with tri fold. Easy on easy off (most of the time) You can store it next to your music gear when not in use.

X2 for trifold. I'm happy with mine. Looks good, folds up quicker than you can roll a roll up, and its lighter than a hard cover. If you really need the full bed, it comes completely off in a minute or two.

x3 on the tri-fold. I bought one from jegs.com that I've been very happy with, easy to take on and off & doesn't leak.

Re: Recommend a tonneau style
another vote for a trifold. Picked this one up on amazon:

Made a video of it here:
We've had some very heavy rain since I got it, and it's kept the bed dry.

I had a roll up vinyl one on my first truck, if it gets cold (below 45) where you live don't do that to yourself

I had one on my previous truck, and in Arizona summers, the snaps are a million degrees, and the vinyl sags. Trifold is totally the way to go.

Re: Recommend a tonneau style
I've got a roll up, that has 3 aluminum cross supports that extend the width of the bed. Easy to roll up and allow access to the entire bed.
Mine has two tiny holes near the cab from the precious owner, and still manages to stay dry for the most part.
Also has a low profile so it still looks good (but i assume the trifold is the same)

Re: Recommend a tonneau style
I really liked my trifold. In the end, I needed more enclosed dry space, so had to put a canopy on it. I much prefer the look of the tonneau cover, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If you want to drive over to Vancouver Island, you can buy mine!

Re: Recommend a tonneau style
If you need the bed to be uncovered most of the time,
Hard trifold with the drive-in-the-up-position feature is your best option, but costs a lot of money. Also you won't be able to see out the back window, if that bothers you.
Soft Roll-up is your budget option. Less durable but does what you need it to do.
Pace makes a hard roll-up that's expensive and takes up a notable amount of box space. Not sure on the reliability.
A soft tri-fold is cheap but might need to be removed to drive with an open bed, which could be a PITA. Also tend to wear out quicker/not take much abuse.

Re: Recommend a tonneau style
I have a Tonna pro hard tri-fold. I also bought a Pop-A-Loc for my tailgate. The advantage to that is, it can't be sliced open with a knife and the tailgate is a little more secure, so your gear stays safe and dry. Secondly it has a lifetime warranty,I recently broke a clasp and they are sending me a brand new cover, the warranty is unbeatable. Not cheap $499.00.

Re: Recommend a tonneau style
Oldish thread but what would you guys recommend for soft roll-up covers? I have a motorcycle so trifold wouldn't really work for me plus I like the look of the roll-up ones. Any specific brands to look for? Thanks!

Re: Recommend a tonneau style
I've had a Truxsedo roll up cover for 6 or 7 years and it has worked well for me. The Velcro to hold it when rolled up sort of rotted away, but a couple new Velcro straps sorted that out.
