Not to render this argument pointless, but who said anything about grinding The only time JB weld needs to be ground is if you need to smooth it out or get rid of it altogether, neither of which are needed for my purpose

I would still try to get the stripped torx bed bolt out & repair it properly by replacing the filler neck.

X3, something hard (JB weld) won't stick to a decaying rubber hose. And if it did, the rest of the neck splitting isn't far behind.

Plenty of ideas on how to get the bolt out.

Fwiw, if the bed bolts are rusted, so are the straps. If you're going to drop it, might as well consider ordering new straps.

^^^ X4. Gluing rotten rubber is not a permanent nor reliable repair, no matter what adhesive is used.

JB Weld will soon fall off the flexing rubber, and pieces will fall INSIDE your fuel tank. Then you'll have to fish 'em out. You're making more work. Just do the job right, or not at all. Eg, don't fill up your tank past 7/8 full.
