Default DIY Tonneau

HI Guys

Tried to post this earlier but some how failed.
Had some spare flooring and a gift from God ($100 Lowe's store credit) and some spare time so I did this.

Flush mount tonneau cover using aliminum angle iron for the sides & 2X2 lumber for cross members. And lots of clear urethane for weather protection.

So now I ask the pros. Good or bad idea?

Thanks

Jeff

Looks GOOD!

Only time & weather will tell if it was good or bad idea.

I'm not sure bout the flush mount either unless you sealed it somehow, as the weather has to go somewhere. Even my vinyl tonneau leaks a lil'

Thanks for the thumbs up.

For waterproofing I used some rubber weather seal, like the stuff used on doors and many coats of indoor/ outdoor clear urethane.

That looks awesome! You should take pictures of the underside. Did you put struts on it yet? How about a lock? Its got that old school truck bed look. I like it.

Looks pretty cool to me. Only concern would be that water is going to sit in the slots between the boards and between the bedsides and the ends of the boards. Eventually, the wood will start to soak this up. Also, with weather changes, the boards are going to expand and contract. Those gaps will get bigger and smaller.

Looks cool. It'd look really cool with some book-matched Birdseye Maple veneer

Is it laminate or real wood? Laminate doesn't do water well at all.

It is laminate that was lying around. But weather striping, and many coats of outdoor urethane should seal it all tight against the weather.

If not we will just call it an experiment and try something else.

You know what, even if it doesn't last you get 10 internet points for being awesome. Looks great and is a neat way of reusing some junk.
