Old School Tailgate Swap

I've seen people ask about ranger tailgates that are swappable between different year models. Does anyone know if there's such thing as a tailgate for a ranger that looks like it's off of a 78 F-150? If not does anyone know how much work it would be to make the one of that year model F-150 work?

If you want that style of tailgate, you need to buy a tailgate from a 1983-1992 Ranger. They feature the Ford script stamped into the sheetmetal similar to the older F-Series trucks. To achieve the look, basically you have to cut the center section out of both tailgates, and then weld in the older center section into your newer tailgate.

Yes & No!

I've seen a Ranger around here (93-97 model) that has a 83-92 tailgate on it and looks pretty good since its painted the same color as the truck.

If I see it again, I'll try to get some pics.

The 88ish-92ish tailgates have an aluminum cover on them that can be removed to show the stamped steel oldschool bed. So dont pass over one because it doesnt look old.

As I stated, never got to see the truck up close to inspect the tailgate.

Best thing to do would go to boneyard and find one & test fit it.

Let us know what ya find & do and pics if you go that route.

I was thinkin of doin this a while back too... I really like old school stuff especially when it comes to trucks.. I gotta get my butt into the local yank-a-part...........but it'll be harder to get one to color match my "harvest gold" or whatever Ford called the beige for the newer Rangers..
