Default Paint is too dull.

When my truck was in the accident back in September we used junk yard parts to fix it. My truck is red and the parts we used were a lighter shade of red. Its been truck month and one of the things on my to do list was repaint the hood and fender to match the truck. I used Dupli-Color Perfect Match Premium Automotive Paint, and after that dried and couple coats for Dupli-Color Perfect Match Protective Clear Coat Finish. Here is my problem. The paint is still dull and flat and looks like crap. Anyone have any ideas on how to bring the shine out? I've washed it, used rubbing compound, waxed it, used meiguiars Color-X all to no help. If anyone would like pictures, I will go take some. Thanks in advance.

you need to water sand it with 500 grit water paper and get it buffed that will bring the shine up but be carefull you dont want to sand the paint you just want the clear if you go to far it will sand the paint off any detail shop can do this around here i get it done for around 100 bucks but thats with me sanding it my self

I wouldn't wet sand with 500 grit paper..... the amount of clear coat on your paint is minimal, hell you can easily rub through the clear with 3000 grit paper.

Did you use the compound by hand? It does seem like you need to wetsand and machine buff, then polish to bring back the gloss

I own a detailing business and a guy i detail for that sells rebuilds has that issue too. Almost all his cars came out well that I did by using meguiars ultimate compound with a high speed orbital buffer and then a nice coat of meguiars nxt paste wax applied with the orbital buffer as well. When you use the compound put alot of elbow grease into it.
