Default Suggestions on paint for my Ranger

I am getting ready to repaint my 98 Ranger. It is now Black. The clear coat has the crack effect to it now and looks terrible. The body is in good shape. No rust or dents.

Where would.you suggest I get paint? I want to go with black clear coat again.

Several things to think about first... Like do you know how to spray base coat and then clear coat? Do you have the paint guns and other stuff to do it? Do you have a clean well ventilated area to spray in. Do you have a paint suit and mask? Must think of all of this first.

I have all the equipment to spray the paint. Never have done basecoat clear coat. But have done enamel on farm equipment. And many wood working finishes. I have a vented makeshift spray booth I do woodwork sprays in. It is plenty large enough for my truck.to pull in

Either go with Carquest which has pretty good paint or NAPA which is not to bad either. I gather you are painting the whole truck so matching is not an issue. Prepping the truck is one of the most important parts for the paint to last and also spraying light coats until it comes to the clear. You need at least a 1.6 mm tip to spray clear and it sprays better at a 1.8.

That what was wondering. Auto parts store paint or order from online company? Also, clear coat or single stage paint?

Do clearcoat
Either PPG or dupont have good paint.

You don't need a 1.6 tip. I spray primer with a 1.8. What kind of clear are you spraying?

Practice a little first, lookup some youtube videos maybe?

Base/clear sprays a lot different than enamel. The base goes on pretty light, the clear wet. Flash times and film thickness is a lot more critical than with enamel. Not trying to scare you off just letting you know.

I spray base with a 1.6 and clear with a 1.8 and have 2 guns for it plus a separate primer gun just to be sure

That's a good ideal. 2 guns incase one messes up. Can just grab the second and go

But what brand paint to use? I have a NAPA and a O'Reilly local. Or should I order off line?

1.6 and 1.8? Are you shooting waterborne? I have been painting for 23yrs. I use 1.4 for base and 1.3 for clear. 1.8- 2.0 depending on which primer.
