Thumbs up front swap core support question

hey there guys

ok i have been reading about frong end swaps and i know all the parts that i have to switch to make my 97 look like the newer year model that i am wantting it to look like pref 03 model. So with that said how hard is it to get the core support to fit right with inner fenders. some say not hard and others say major pre fab work needs to be done. Would love to get it going but don't want to start something that i can't complete without hireing a body man LOL. just need to know before dropping money on parts

You need to cut a few dozen spot welds, after you disassemble the core support.

I tried on my explorer, I got aggravated and got out the body saw. Its getting scrapped anyway.

If your serious about this get the best spot weld cutter you can find.

There are about 30 spot welds. you need to measure to make sure you get it in the correct place. i would measure the one that is in your truck now, and the 98+ one before removing them. measure straight back, diagonally, and across the front. getting the core support to the inner fenders isn't the hard part. i have heard you need to make custom frame mounts for the core support. I haven't gotten that far into mine yet, but i know i will because the original ones have been cut off the frame on my truck. there will be a little trimming here and there. that's part of the game. you will need to weld it back in because it's a major strength piece and it is what holds the alignment of the entire front sheet metal.

wow I am getting into something big then i thought the core support just bolted on....I was a little preschool with that then. Ok so i am looking at the core support being my bigest problem with the whole thing. not to bad. I have tackled engine, transmission, oh and just completed fixing the ac system today any of that harder than this seeing i am not a welding person and the only welder I have handy is an arch welder??? oh and thanks for the replys guys

i would defintly try and get a mig welder not only is it easy to use it can do just about anything except extremes.
and as far as a frount end swap ive only done those for the same model but i reccomend a blair double-end spot cutter i was using that yesterday and it cut through the weld like butter
