Default Painting Steel Bumper

So I painted my front bumper with spray on bed liner before the winter but as soon as I took it to the coin car wash, the power washer stripped some of the paint right off! Needless to say, there is a bunch of spots that are rusting now so I wanna sand it down and re-paint it again.

Anyone else have this problem or can give any advice on how to make the paint hold up better and not come off the second I go to wash my truck?

Was thinking of sanding + cleaning it, using self etching primer, couple coats of rustoleum, and another few coats of clear coat on top of that. Thoughts??

its all down to the prep, make sure everything is sanded and de-greased, as for rustoleum, i have just painted my entire truck with a paint called zip-gaurd hammered finnish, which is another urethane paint, and it works well. i was going to paint the whole truck with bedliner, but it was too much money and work to get the colored bedliner i wanted to canada

westewoo, the color looks good.
but the close up just looks like extreme orange peel.
though It was a bit mottled too, but realized that was the reflection of the photographer.

Is this a custom bumper? If so get it powdercoated. Well worth the money. If it's like that bumper I'd say just be sure to put on a bunch of costs and really prep it.

I agree that prep is the key. Even if you used a regular paint as long as you prep it thoroughly, I don't think the paint will strip off easily.
