Rusted Wheel Help
Hi, I have a question about fixing rust on my wheels..I'm looking to get new tires soon and the rusted wheel really won't look the best. Any tips on how to fix or clean up the rust? Or is it better to just buy new wheels? If so any recommendations?
Thanks!

Re: Rusted Wheel Help
I would just plan on buying new wheels.
Standard/basic steel wheels run $50 EA (+/-).

If it's surface rust use a wire brush and paint them front and back. If structural rust obviously replace wheels.

Thanks guys! Will probably just end up buying a cheap set of steel wheels. Any idea what these old ones would be worth? If anything??

Re: Rusted Wheel Help
Don't buy a cheap set of wheels.
If you can take the tires off, get a wire brush wheel and an angle grinder. Grind it down. prep and paint. Get maybe a nice metal flake gray, clear coat it. I like those wheels to be honest.

Ok thanks, why do you say don't just buy new ones? Bad quality? Or do you just think my wheels are and easy fix?

Re: Rusted Wheel Help
well you said "cheap set of steel wheels". To me, cheap is never an option.
It is a VERY easy fix, you don't have to take the tires off, but you will get better results.
I am also a fan of not spending more $ then you have to. I like your wheels, they just need a touch up after 12 years.
You could also go to a junk yard and get some aluminum wheels.
I have aftermarket wheels, came on the truck (2 sets) and I hate that they are not OEM.
But hey its your truck, do whatever you feel best.
I think blacking them out though would be too much black.
Both where sets of American Racing wheels, I sold the wagon wheels.
The ones that are on the truck now where rusted all over. Did the procedure I told you and still look good after 3 years.
So I would try to get some more life out of yours

Ok, I see what your saying, I do think the OEM ones look great. I do agree I think a black wheel would just be a little to much black. So what all would I need to re paint the wheels? And also where I live the low this week is in the -25 😔 lol I hate it...but would that affect the painting the process? If lets say it 30 degrees out, would the paint work the same as let's say 60 degrees out?
