Front end idea!
I've had this idea for awhile and I might tackle it when it gets warmer. My plan is to line-x the front bumper then clear coat the plastic grille. After that I want to add this material behind the holes in the grille:
Definitely going to do it right.
Any thoughts?

I used expanded steel after my plastic honeycomb got smashed up in a head on collision. I thought the diamonds looked better than the hexes lol (the vertical bars are there because the guy at the industrial supply place sheared the material the wrong way and I had to join 3 pieces)

Re: Front end idea!
I'm also debating what to do with my grill on my 2000 it's in rough shape and i'm not sure i care much for a billet look. May just paint mine black for now or see if i can't get my hands some black billet once it gets warmer that is.

Being I have the same front end. My idea was to buy another grill off ebay. ($40 or so) and take my factory grill and cut the big cross out of the middle. So all that's left is the top bottom and sides of the grill nothing in the middle. I was gonna fiberglass the holes in and put the mesh behind the grill and put an emblem in the driver bottom corner. Btw the mazda emblem on the grill is 2 9mm nuts I believe and it comes off.

You can use whatever material you want. I was gonna use the steel mesh and paint it black cause I already had it. I went to the junk yard and snagged another emblem. About the only place you can get them and painted it.
