Lightbulb Roll on liner a Tool Box?

OK so here is what I want to do.

I want to take my Husky aluminum tool box and paint it with some of that do it yourself roll on bed liner. If anybody has done this I want some input. I also want to hear some product reviews from people that have done it to there beds etc. I got the box cheap so i am not worried about ruining it or anything like that. I was going to buy a black one in the near future but i was thinking the other day it would be cool to line it and maybe it would save me some money. Let me know what you think....

http://www.thegreathardwarestore.com...201&click=2744

Seems like Herculiner is the most common brand but let me know if there is anything else out there.

i havent done it to a tool box but i have used it on some diamond plate before just make sure you prep the box by using a scotch brite pad those boxes have a sealer like a clear coat on them and the liner wont stick to it unless you clean it well i would use rubbing alcohol or paint thinner and scotch brite pad before you applied it .. nice truck man i just finished mine i bought wrecked its identical to yours but mine has a 4.0 hope this helps

Thanks! I figured i would need some pretty strong stuff to strip it. On the plus side the tool box comes out so i can take my time cleaning/applying the stuff. Post some pics of your truck!

Edit: nevermind I see them in your album. Nice truck! Yes it does look identical but I would have to say yours is better. I dont have the 4.0 or 4x4

But you probably wouldn't recommend this for the tool box??

no its good for touch up and plastic but you def want to roll on or get it sprayed on with a spray gun not out of an aersol can it just dont layer with enough substance for that large of an area and not mention it would be harder to get an even coat on it

i've always wondered about the inside of the tool box but i'm not sure about the front. i'm not sure how the lid and stuff would work.. like closing and everything. it may rub.. but if it worked, it has the potential to look sweet. haha. and just throwing this out there, you'd probably wanna take the box out of your truck when you do it.. haha.

Did herculiner to the inside of my bed, and it really turned out better than expected. My advice wtih the herculiner, though, use a rough sandpaper. The scotch brite pad doesn't do enough. The deeper the sanding, the better and more durable it'll dry. Can't see why it wouldn't work the same way on a metal tool box.

I would invest in renting or buyin a little hand held sander and some 80 grit sand paper for it... it will make your prep process a lot better then the pad the kit comes with. Clean your box with Acetone (don't use paint thinner per Herculiner direction) really well, sand it with the sander 4-5 times, if you can take it apart, clean it with acetone again, let fully dry, and go to town. I used this stuff of a toolbox before when I helped my buddy do his and it turned out great. The only thing is that this stuff gets thick, so I wouldn't put it on the inner adges of the lid, where it contacts the tool box as you might have a hard time closing the lid (I'm not sure what box you have, so if your lid lay falt against the top of the box, don't worry about it, my buddy's had the lip go over the box).

Good point on the lid design. I will see what I can come up with.

I am going to attempt it this weekend. Wish me luck

Ok so the tool box is out of the truck sitting in the garage begging for bedliner. I started to sand it last night and realized that it is gonna be a big job! Gonna regroup and figure out a better faster way to sand it. Getting between all the diamonds is a pita.

I will post some progress pics as I go along.

Xylene/xylol anybody got any suggestions on where you can get a small amount of this stuff? Lowes. And Home depot only have it in huge cans for like 20!
