Re: Light bar behind grill
Thought I would chime in mostly just read posts. I had mine just mounted on its own on the bumper looked out of place to me. So got a bull bar and wrapped it around that looked better and its better protected about $400 for everything.

It's not better protected since it will be the first thing to get hit in a front end collision. It's also sitting lower than it would be vs behind the grill/on bumper.

I think if i take a 90 degree hardware bracket from home depot or wherever ( I'm thinking 3 or 4" and bolt it into that plastic that runs the top of the grill will give me the spacing I need to go between the slats. my biggest concern is if that plastic will hold the weight w/o issue. idk, ill install in the next few days and post pics

What I did was bolt it to the fiber glass ( the part where the grill screws into ). and just get a bolt that is the length to fit in the slots of the grill

Re: Light bar behind grill
I figured it out guys. i got 2 4" 90 degree hardware brackets from home depot and modified them ( drilled a hole, used a grinder to make a slat for easy adjustments, and bent them to get the correct angle). then drilled through the fiberglass that runs the top of the grill, bolted the brackets on then bolted the light bar to the brackets.
I did have to take my pocket knife and whittle some of the back of the top slat so the grille could be popped back on ( maybe whittled a square inch).
note: its an extremely tight fit but it can be done. heres some pics to better explain.
if y'all have any questions; fire away.

I agree, maybe some day.
on another note I've got 2 4" square pods that will be going in between the tow hooks as soon as I figure out to mount them.

first image is just head lights, second is just my pods, and the third is light bar and pods.
the light from the bar reaches 3 or 4 times further that my headlights and the pods really do well for looking out my driver or passenger and being able to see obstacles that way. their light really reaches about 180 degrees and are almost as bright as my headlights.

I like the way you did it, I just decided to go with a single row so it would fit in there, which it does perfectly

I like how you did it and the look it gives, but I have to ask... Why did you remove the Ford emblem? To me it doesn't look right without it, and would look better with the emblem painted black. But to each his own!

I have the ford emblem in it. That was a new grille. My previous one got all smashed up by a deer.
That's why I got the light bar. Deer detection.

Re: Light bar behind grill
2006 FX4, would you know off the top of your head if this would be the same basic installation for a 2003? I have the honeycomb grill though, not sure if that matters.
This is the same light bar install I wanted to do to mine and was wondering how well it would light up the trail from the position in the grill. I saw there was another member that did a light bar install safari style and it light up a crazy amount compared to standard headlights.
Also, any recommendations on light bars?
