How to disable abs...it gives me problems
My abs system works like it should but I actually need the brakes to lock up sometimes. When i'm driving on dirt roads and I need to do a hard stop the antilock brakes kick in to the point where I essentially have no brakes. It's just all pedal grind. It's dangerous and its made me have multiple close calls of almost running into foliage and other cars.
Is there a way to disable the abs?
Thanks in advance

That's with going as slow as 20 sometimes...I usually never go past 50 on dirt roads. I don't have the suspension to do it haha.

if you are hitting the brakes hard enough to kick abs in you are going too fast...

Your pads are glazed over and not working properly if you feel like you can't stop fast enough and have no brakes.

Thank you for giving an actually helpful answer. And I can stop on asphalt from 90-0 faster than I can go from 0-60. But if I go 15 mph at the end of my dirt road and push the brake pedal not even half way down, it'll just grind and I'll just slide.
And they are not always that bad...it's somewhat variable.

Do you think the cold weather is just making them seem worse ? Cold pads and rotors sometimes make more noise. Sounds like maybe they work better after they get warmed up ?

By hitting your brakes that hard your gonna destroy the pads and the rotors over time. Why don't you start slowing down sooner? Then you won't have to hit the brake has hard. And locking up the tires is going to make you stop faster? No.

on my 96 I pulled both front sensors and the ABS light in the dash
not 100% sure if that will work on yours though
In theory it should

OP if you do go ahead and decided to disable the ABS remember that locking up the brakes, isn't going to make you stop faster on a dirt road, it's also hard on the brake system
if you have to slam on your brakes 90% your following someone to close or going to fast. so be smart about your braking

Dude trust me, abs helps more than you think, I only have rear abs (I think) and it's been a lifesaver (literally)
