My abs light is on sometimes so one or more of my wheels locks if I hit the brakes too hard, its annoying I could t live without ABS(literally) I wish I year had traction control too..

Pull the abs fuse, on 2009 and older trucks it only controls the abs motor. I seriously don't understand why people can't just help somebody with an issue, I get the people that are actually offering good advice but why can't we just answer the question? If he wanted to be ridiculed for wanting todo something to his truck I'm sure he'd ask his mother. /end rant.

Instead of just pulling the fuse, try cutting the wire and route a switch to the dash. Then you can have quick access to turn it off and on as needed. This is getting to be a common mod in the dirt bike community. The newer abs systems are smarter and you can even adjust the sensitivity on the fly on some but a lot of the older ones give the same behavior you are experiencing.

I still don't understand why you don't just FIX the brakes? How do you even know the grind is ABS related if it "works like it should"?

It sounds like the brakes and abs are working just fine. You can stop quicker on dirt and gravel by locking the front wheels because a wedge of dirt/gravel builds up in front of the tire as it slides. There have been many tests that show that you do not necessarily stop quicker with abs just that you have better control.

I would think pulling the fuse would work... I know when we would track or autocross the STi we always pulled the fuse... ABS would kick on WAY too soon when braking and braking hard. A lot of people on our forum also pulled it when it was winter time because Subaru's ABS is notorious for kicking on way too soon.. Then by spring/summer time you just put the fuse back on and have ABS again... never any issues. I think I did that to my STi for 4 years. Never did it on the ranger but this morning our entire street was icy slush and the ABS just kept kicking on, it was quite annoying.

If one knows how to drive a vehicle without ABS then it shouldn't be a problem. Too many people just SLAM the pedal to the floor when that's not how you should be braking in general...
