Low Down on LED Headlights
2003 Ford Ranger
I just removed the HID lights i had in the Headlights because one of the ballasts were bad.
Went back to the OEM set up.
Someone was just telling me about LED headlights....
Can anyone else give me any infomration?
Is it a simple bulb switch, or is it more than that?
Cost, general direction, place to buy etc etc.

Led setup is the same as hid setup. There's a ballast that you have to use.

technically it's not a ballast it is an led driver. I just bought some myself and I love them, they are really bright being 2200 lumens each. If you aim yh right they are not blinding at all. Would totally recommend them I got mine off of ebay. Only problem I have is the ring that locks them in place doesn't fit. They seem to fit pretty snug without it.

I trimmed most of my ring so it still locks in. And to the OP I like mine a lot

Re: Low Down on LED Headlights
no no no and no. the LED headlight kits that are on the market now are a joke as far as light output. they just cannot compare with even drop in HIDs or stock (for our trucks) halogens. look at any vehicle that comes from the factory with LED headlights. they all have a ton of tech packed into them in terms of lenses to focus the light into a useable beam pattern, similar to the way factory HIDs are done. dropping a LED "kit" into your trucks headlights will be even worse than doing drop in HID's.

Re: Low Down on LED Headlights
The cheap ebay kind of led headlights are more a novelty, they look kinda cool & you can say you have led headlights, but they generally don't have great output.
The mega expensive good brands like rigid ind. have some awesome products that are very bright & hold up well from what I've read.

I only did my led headlights for color. Figured it was more reliable than hids. I have two rigid pods and a 20" light bar for when I want to light up the road

Re: Low Down on LED Headlights
I'm in the process of getting led headlights. Bought a pair but the fan was to big so it didn't fit the drivers side. But the light out put was impressive! Gave them to my father in law and he put them in his truck. They are worth the money and now they are making them plug n play. No extra led drivers.
