Default Removeing and replaceing 99 Ranger right front fender

Just wondering how hard or easy it would be to remove and replace the right front fender on my 99 xlt Ranger. I have some rust right at the area where the protective coating and the steel fender come together. I have the flared fender protectors (OEM) so which fender would I need with or without the wheel lip moulding? Thanks

It's an easy job. There are maybe 3 or 4 bolts along the top of the fender, one or two inside the door jam, and possibly a couple inside the wheelwell. It's been a few years since I did mine, but the hardest part was just getting it lined back up perfectly when putting it back together.

If you've got the same type of flares that I do, you'll need a fender with mounting holes along the edge of the wheelwell.

Yep the same style of flares, do you know if that fender would be considered "with a lip moulding"?

I don't know. If there's a picture, get the one with holes in it around the wheel well.

I went to the salvage yard this P.M. and found a good fender the same color and with the flares same as mine for $60. The only thing is it has a pinstripe decal on it, is there any way a person can get it off without hurting the paint? Thanks for any help.

I've heard of people using an eraser wheel to remove pin striping.

Depending on how old the fender is, the paint could be faded enough that you'll still see where the stripe was after it's removed.

Is there some kind of rubbing compound to buff with and blend the paint afterwards ? I have a gawdy double stripe I've always wanted off.

Not really since any difference in color would be in the base coat. You can check the paint on your door jambs versus the exterior paint to get an idea of how bad the color fading difference might be, if any. A clay bar and some Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner will help some on the clear coat.
