Default Installing exterior Bed Light

My 2001 Ford Ranger XLT 4x4 had an exterior light to light the bed area turned on with the interior dome light switch. My 2003 Ranger XLT 4x4 does not have this option. Can such a light be installed and how would I go about it? If not, what's a good alternative to light up the night in the bed?

A cheepo fog light from wallworld does the job pretty nice. I have one in a toolbox somewhere that survived my Jeeps rollover that I'm planning to mount inside my cap. Just trying to figure out how to wire it. I heard somewhere that there's an always on connection you can tap into on the towing wire harness but I'm not sure. Anybody know if this is true?

Edit: Currently I'm using something kind of like this http://www.hisupplier.com/product-192232-Work-Light/ except it has a turn signal type bulb and some strong magnets on the back that i use to stick it to the side of the bed. I just ran the wire up through the rear window in the cab and plug it in when i need it....

Edit2: Also how safe would it be to use heavy duty 12-gauge speaker wire to power the fog in the bed? It won't be used for extended periods of time. I have a whole spool of it laying around and if I can get by with it I'd save some cash....

You could find an older 3rd brake light with the white/cargo lights, put some bulbs in there and tap into your dome light power so whenever you turn on your dome light the cargo would light up.

I figured it was easier than the garage was telling me along with a high price tag). I'll check the local salvage yards for the light ass'y. Much obliged.

Thanks for the option of the fog light. If I can't find the brake light & replace the bulbs, I may just try it out. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
