Default Modifying Over Rail Bedliner to Under Rail Bedliner?

I bought my truck with an over the rail duraliner bedliner and can't stand the look of the plastic on the rail. I want to modify it and put bushwacker bed rail caps on. I was wondering if it could be modified into an under rail bedliner. From my understanding pendaliner/duraliner and the ford factory bed liners are all made by pendaliner. Has anyone had any experience with this type of modification or should I just buy an under the rail liner and save myself the hassle?

It is easy to do that I know ford charges about 3 bills for their liner and a penda liner is probably going to set you back about 230 or so. Basically you are going to come down off the top of the rail about 1/2 inch and cut the top rail off. Use a jig saw then come back over it with a razor knife to clean up the edge. At the front and back that is where you will have to be careful... Go look at a few under rails so you get an idea how they go there it doesn't matter what kinda truck you look at.

i do not like plastic liners, they encourage rust.

Or you can take the liner out and grease the bed inside then out the liner back in. I've done this.

Just get a spray in bedliner. Much better than the plastic.

Since the mid 90's beds have been made with galvanized metal to prevent the rusting out of the bed. The metal is tested to 10,000 hours.

If you're going to buy an under the rail anyways you might as well try to modify yours first. Nothing to lose really.

I agree with others that you are better off ditching the plastic liner (unless you live in a dry climate)

This may be true but 10000 hours comes quick if you constantly have water trapped under your bedliner and it doesn't dry for 3-4 days.

Cause they never get clogged with anything and correct me if I'm wrong but aren't they like 3" up from the bottom of the bed.

Long story short...

Lose the plastic, drop-in liner
Get your bed bed sprayed with Line-X or DIY.

Spray or roll on would probably be a better choice, but if you already have the plastic liner, you could trim the top rails back a bit & use a heat gun to soften the plastic & carefully mold it to fit shugly under the rails.
