Default Inexpensive 2wd lift options

I drive a 2001 XLT regular cab 2wd auto, everything is stock under the hood. I've dipped a few parts and pieces, did the throttle cable mod, and now that I got some money saved up want to add some height to my ride.

I've read up on a few different options for the back end like the Chevy drop shackles, the AAL, or adding 4x4 blocks for an inch or 2 in the back, but to be real I'm not all that handy when it comes to my truck so I was wondering what you guys thought would be the easiest to install.
Seeing as how this is all cosmetic since I'm only 2wd I'm not really trying to gain any performance or drop major coin on a lift kit.

As far as the front goes, I'm not even sure what else is out there except for spindles, which I'm trying to avoid, or coil spacers. Is there any other inexpensive ways I can lift my front end a touch to give my truck a little edgier look?

You're pretty much trying to avoid your best lift option for the front, way to go.

Might as well get a body lift since you think lifted 2wds are pointless. 3" lift, no performance gains, yada yada. If you search you'll find the how to, and countless threads of others detailing their installs.

I'd suggest a body lift kit if you don't want to mess with your ford ranger's suspension. A body lift will add 3 inches of lift all-around. A LOT of members here on FRF have body lifted their ford ranger, so getting information should be easy to do.

If you are willing to mess with your ford ranger's suspension, I'd suggest either a front spindle-lift or a torsion key lift. In my opinion, a torsion key lift is easier to install compared to a spindle lift. But it is your ford ranger, so the choice is up to you.

He doesn't have torsion bars.

Yea, but as far as I've seen the body lifts are around 200-250 and the shackles/aal are like 50-80 and the coil spacers are like 50 too so it'd be like twice as expensive to do the body lift.
As far as avoiding spindles go, it's just the sheer price dude, like I said I don't do anything crazy in my rig so I don't need them.

Just because something is cheaper initially does not make it good. You'll also need longer shocks for your coil spacers, and they'll prematurely wear out your ball joints (upper and lower) and your inner and outer tie rods. Plus, they make your truck ride like the suspension is set in concrete.

But hey, your call. I'd rather spend $2-300 initially on something that won't ruin my truck instead of $50 on something I'll spend $300 on to try and make work.

Looks like I've got a little more saving to do than I planned. No biggie though, thanks for the heads up guys.

oooooor you could get a proper lift. take the $300 youd throw at a useless body lift, buy lift splindles (and keep using your stock coils, stock shocks, and bj's) and get the $40 shackles to lift the rear. how hard is this?

Sounds a lot more promising, and comparable in cost. Are the spindles pretty easy to install? I'm sure I can find a how to on here to do it.

I'm buying the Doetsch spindles for my ranger, and shackles for rear, maybe a body lift later on and TBar crank. Mine too is 2wd. I found a really good write up from another member here, so I'll be doing it myself. I'll try to find the link tomorrow

I ordered the maxtrac lift spindles a week ago and some shackles so it should be here in a couple days. Took alot of thinking, but after a few months i finally broke down and bought em. Spindles are really your best bet up front

Was that the like middle of the road priced ones? That's what I'm looking for, I will probably have them by mid June from working full time in the summer.

Its already been said, but definitely get spindles. Don't even LOOK at coil spacers unless you want to replace every piece of your front suspension. Then you can spend ~$300 and be exactly where you started lol

I have a pair of Doetsche spindles on mine and they were easy enough to install. Just be forewarned you will need to grind away some material on the A-Arm and the Spindle to maintain your turn radius (this is covered in the how-to) and if you break an ABS sensor they are ~$50-60 each. So be careful removing them from the stock spindle.
