Re: Camper shell
Don't take this the wrong way, free is always good, but you have too nice a Ranger to put a topper that doesn't fit, and is the wrong color. Unless you absolutely need a topper now, keep it, but save for a decent used one. I got mine on craigslist for $250.

Re: Camper shell
I have to agree with this guy ^ its cool if it doesn't match but if it doesn't fit that looks bad. I had to pass up a great deal on a perfect topper, exact paint match and everything but it was for a 7ft box and mines a 6ft. I coulda got it for 75 bucks too. If you're gonna use it for camping that big hole is going to let weather in and that would suck.

Re: Camper shell
A camper shell/bed-cap is a good thing to have. But if it doesn't fit, then thats not good. Another good thing is that you got the bed-cap for FREE. Still though...my suggestion is to sell the one you got for free, and try to get a bed-cap that will fit correctly. Not having a proper-fit cap looks kinda weird. I'm not trying to be mean, just saying my opinion. Good luck .

Re: Camper shell
Yeah, I would try selling it. It looks a bit strange having an extra foot of cap hanging off the back. I'm sure you can find one for 100 somewhere. Even if you have to travel an hour or so, it's worth it. Ask local junkyards too.

Re: Camper shell
Sorry bud I'm in the same boat as everyone else. Sell it for 40 bucks and look for a proper fitting one that either colour matched, a neutral colour (black or white), or a colour that compliments your green (brown wouldn't be bad). Toppers come up all the time, so just be patient -- you'll get a good one soon enough!!

Re: Camper shell
I just got my first 2005 ford ranger xlt 2wd extended cab and I've been having trouble finding a used camper shell that fits. I've meaured my bed but it seems like all camper shells come in different shapes and sizes and when I look at some online ads I'm not ever sure if it will fit. Is measuring the bed a sure way to tell if the camper shell will fit???

I'd measure the bed, and the height of the cab. I know I've lent my topper to a friend to use on his S10, and while it fit, the S10's cab was an inch or two shorter than the topper, so the topper stuck up higher than the cab. The angle of the back of the cab is a bit different too, so while there was an even 1" or so gap between the back of the cab and the front of the topper on my Ranger, when the topper was on the S10, the gap started at about 1" on the bottom and ended up being 2" or more at the top.

Re: Camper shell
Doesn't look good if it doesn't fit, and no security. Like others said, sell it on Craig's and keep looking for the correct topper. I found a fiberglass topper on Craig's for 25 bucks. Had to clean it up, paint it, and replace some parts. Looks good now but most importantly it fits.

Re: Camper shell
surfmobile3 ,allyncooper
this thread is almost a year old.
The beds on our rangers are the same from 1993 and up.
If you want to find a shell that fits, look for someone selling one that was ON a 1993 or newer ranger. My shell cam off of a 1992 ranger, it fits OK. It is about 3/8 on an inch too short at the front. Not a big deal the weather stripping seals it up. Unless i take off the shell and put it back on. If i do that I have to put new stripping on, or it leaks. Not a ton but a little. No biggie...

Mine doesn't match my truck. I bought mine for $90. Sell that one and buy one for a shortbed or maybe trade it.
