Default the weight different

Between the old that have about 3300lb and new that have 4300lb. How is new is heavier than the old? Different size frame?
I can imagine how much gas I could save if there a way to make it 3300lb.
Is there?

How old are we talking? The 1st and 2nd gen trucks were noticeably smaller than the 3rd gen and up. Frames are more substantial, cabs are much larger would be the main difference. Plus you have to compare apples to apples, what are the trucks's configurations? (old standard cab short bed 2wd to new standard cab short bed 2wd ect)

90'? The 1st and 2nd gens were made from 83-92, 93 they went to the larger trucks with the new body style. Around 98 they made the standard cabs even larger I believe.

Oh then starting at 94. My ex gf had a 94 reg cab with a standard and her is 3300 I think.
I do notice the size different. I just thought in today modern it would be same or a bit lighter.

Most trucks these days are actually alot heavier than their older predecessors mostly because of changes in safety regulations and newer trucks frames and cab structures are actually much stronger than older trucks. The added steel to make them stronger/ safer will add alot of weight. Also things like AC, electric windows, air bags, ABS ect that all adds up too.

Yeah Ford added about 4 inches to the regular cab toward the rear in 98.

With more features comes heavier harnesses also.

Companies like Mercedes have single harnesses (like the dash harness) that weigh 200lbs.

Think about all the gizmos they have.
