Automatic to manual
So I have a 1999, xlt, single cab, v6, 3.0L, automatic, 4x4 ranger and a 1999, xlt, single cab, 4 cylinder, 2.5L, manual, 2wd ranger. I want to swap the 4x4 cab for the 2wd cab, and swap the automatic 4x4 trans and t-case with a manual 4x4 trans and t-case. My question is, what parts can I use from the manual 2wd when I do my automatic to manual swap?? Thanks
Also I'm new to the forum

Re: Automatic to manual
none of the trans will swap the M5OD manuals have integrated bell housings so they are not interchangeable between engines also clutch and flywheel are different. But the cab should be no issue that stuff is all pretty standard just make sure to swap all the wiring.

Re: Automatic to manual
I'm not using the 2wd trans. I'm going to get a manual 3.0 4x4 trans. Are there any parts from the 2wd that I can put in the new trans?

Re: Automatic to manual
steering column to delete auto shifter. (from my experience after hacking mine) its easier to swap whole column if you have it but make sure to use your old key cylinder so it matches door locks. Shifter and bezel and floor console as well all that stuff is the same. You'll probably need a manual t-case though i think the auto bolt pattern is different. Also an overlooked piece is the block plate the manual is stiffer than the auto i trimmed my auto to fit but my flywheel hits it from time to time and makes an annoying clicking sound.

Re: Automatic to manual
Would it be easier easier to make the 2wd into a 4wd? If so, will the 4 cylinder have enough power?

It'll be impossible to convert your 2wd, the frames are different.

Re: Automatic to manual
U sure? I found some forums that say all u need to do is get a 4x4 trans and t-case that match the engine and then do a SAS.

From what ive been told its possible but the amount of fab and work needed is so rediculous that you might as well go buy a 4x4. It sucks i know ive got rwd too

If you wanna do a SAS it's way more money entirely than doing the project you discussed in your first post. Best of luck.

Re: Automatic to manual
There is ford made a version around 02-03 known as a twin stick trucks they had manual t-cases. Engine size shouldn't make a difference as far as a donor the m50d 5speeds are all the same on the output side just the bellhousing is different.
