Are these bed bars chrome or stainless?
Hi Everyone,
Another forum member is selling some Go Rhino bed bars I'm interested in buying. Only thing is, all the exterior accessories on my truck are stainless. I went with all stainless because it's supposed to last forever and not rust.
The problem is, we can't figure out if his bars for sale are chrome or stainless. I really don't want to deal with the rust and deterioration over time of chrome.
Are there any sure fire ways of telling the difference between the two? I know my stainless stuff yellows a bit if I don't constantly polish it, and I thought stainless was non-magnetic. He tried the magnet test and while it stuck really well on his bull bar, it still stuck to the bed bars, though not as strong.
This is a link to his sales ad if that helps any in trying to determine what they're made of! http://www.usedottawa.com/classified-ad/11307035

Re: Are these bed bars chrome or stainless?
steel, whether it has been chromed or not, will attract a magnet, so your "magnet test" is only going to tell you whether it is made of a ferrous metal or not (the magnet won't stick to aluminum or plastic, for instance).
looking at that picture, my guess would be chrome -- but the way to tell is to ask him. if he doesn't know, then I would recommend that you buy from someone who knows what they are selling.

Look at Go Rhino's website and see what they say about the bars..either stainless or chrome they are going to stand up to a lot of crap. They are going to be heavier than you think if they are chrome. I'm leaning towards chrome, but looks can be deceiving.

Re: Are these bed bars chrome or stainless?
Thanks for your help, folks! I actually ended up getting these bars in stainless from my local truck customizing shop this morning. I wanted to be sure I was getting stainless, plus they gave me an awesome deal for being a "good repeat customer"!

Lol I love places that do that. My local junkyard does that, and the bar lol

Re: Are these bed bars chrome or stainless?
I can't get my neighborhood pub to get me anything in stainless steel! I must be hangin' around the wrong places or something....
