Default Mud flaps / stone deflectors.....

I have a new 2010 Ranger XL with 2.3 and five speed. I want to protect the paint from debris thrown up from the tires. I also want to add something which looks good and not "stuck on". The dealer has two styles of flaps which come through Ford but I have not seen them yet. Would fender skirts do a better job than flaps. Can someone point me in the right direction and possibly post a photo of what they have on their Ranger?

Idk how much help ill be especially beens im just about to go to sleep because I work nights and im tired lol but honestly as long as your not going to be running wide tires like for a 4x4 or something you prolly wont have to worry to much about the paint. I personally think the stock flaps from ford are just ugly man. fender flares around your wheel wells would help alil im sure but I dont really know how good it would look on your 2wd truck unless you want to make it look like a 4x4 or atleast level with some bigger tires. (im assuming you have a 2wd because u have the 2.3 which im pretty sure they dont make in 4x4 anymore, but you also didnt state whether 4x4 or 2wd so sorry if im wrong) I think 2wd you should go down and 4wd should go up. SO with that being said if your really worried about the debris than just keep mudflaps and try to keep it clean regularly and take care of the paint and you should be just fine. sorry if I didnt really help much but im about to head to sleep, but just wanted to add some insight beens no1 has wb yet. if I think of some good ideas when I wake up and rested ill def post back in. just give it some time and you'll get some good responses. Zach

Have you ever seen the 3M clear paint protection?

It is a film you apply along the bottom of the vehicle to protect against rocks. It is pretty invisible once applied and works very well.

You get it in a roll and apply it where ever you want

STL's idea sounds like the best one, since Many of us actually Remove our mud flaps.

i have the stock flaps but i painted the "RANGER" part to match my truck.

just regular box tape

paint then put pack on

very simple mod to do i like my flaps. keeps my paint like you said from getting all dinged up with rocks and from launching rocks at other peoples cars behind me. well if they follow to close then its there fault lol

Thanks Ranger_EDGE. I see you are in California. You have the advantage of much better weather than I have here in Ontario, Canada. Winter conditions and the salt and sand they put on our roads really call for some type of permanent protection. I like your flaps and will consider them for my new truck although I just hate to drill to mount anything as the unpretected metal is where all of the problems start.. We have visited your State the last two winters to see our daughter and son-in-law who live in Seal Beach. There are many more old vehicles there than here and that is all due to severe weather conditions....our old cars and trucks have rotted away. Just look at the photo of my old ranger (which was oil undercoated regularly) and see the cancer there. Tks. for your input. Dave

Only downside to that is the paint under the film will not fade as your overall paint will since it will be partially/totally protected from uv rays and general exposure.

+thanks for reminding me, i wanted to buy two more flaps for the front wheels before i change the tires.

Truck rusting and falling apart or pain not evenly faded.

I think I would be happy with the paint not being the same shade over time.

Oh don't worry, with our weather here, it'll rust either way if it's not covered in grease

Ranger Sport......you say "the weather here"......but you don't display your location. I can never understand why locations aren't mandatory. I always end up wondering where "here" is?
