I have a soft covered bed cap. Went to open tail gate and the handle broke. I need urgent help because my phone fell out of my pocket and into the bed before the handle broke. How do I open the tailgate with no access to the interior

You can brake it the rest of the way off and pull both of the metal rods and it will unlock or you can get you and somebody else with a skinny screwdriver and push in on the metal parts that lock into the bed through the gap between the bed and tail gate

Now that you're ready to fix the tailgate handle, consider a steel handle that came on the older Rangers. It's a direct swap and many do it to prevent breakage from happening again. And they're cheap and easy to install.

Busted mine this winter. Replaced mine with a new handle from a FRF users a tailgate in five minutes. But as mentioned above the steel handle swap is a great idea. Prevents this from happening. Wish I would done that
