2001 Front/rear bumpers
Getting some new bumpers this weekend, already off of the truck.
What tools do I need to get my current bumpers off? Thanks!

Re: 2001 Front/rear bumpers
3/4 or 19 for front bumper.
I believe it's 21 or 22 for the rear bumper.
You getting the parts from the guy with the DWB tailgate on craigslist? I want those bumpers and tailgate. lol

And thats torx numbers?
I believe so, from the 2002 with dealer plates still on the bumpers?
Yeah, he bought it wrecked, he said someone rolled it on ocean shores, and he got it with 2200 miles on it.

Re: 2001 Front/rear bumpers
WOW. Yeah...I believe the bumpers have dealer tags still on it..he's also got like a back window and some other doodads? idk. Wish I had the dough.....if I did, those bumpers would be on DWB. And hell...make him a deal for that tailgate he's got too! lol.
No......metric or standard sockets. No torx anywhere.

Yeah, if you could wire me up some cash, I'd get you that tailgate. Yeah, he had the bumpers, tailgate, rear window, bed caps, and the grill I think. Too bad all the postings expired off CL.
Okay, thanks very much for the tool info, and when you get underthere, its pretty self explanatory on what to do?
Do I need to remove my hitch?

Re: 2001 Front/rear bumpers
UGG I WANT THOSE BUMPERS!!! lol.
Anyway....yeah. pretty self explanitory. 4 bolts for the front. 4 bolts for the rear. hell....you've got two loose bumpers w/ probably all the bracketry there in front of ya so you can see exactly where the mounting points are, then go find 'em on your truck. If you've got a under-frame mount hitch, you'll have to remove it as it uses the same holes as the bumper. But if you're hitch mounts to the side of the frame AND under in 1 spot, you're good to go. The bumper will just slip in between the tailgate and the hitch.

Okay awesome, thanks Shane! Too bad your not closer, I'd swing by. Haha.
But, I thought you have the same chrome bumper in front now?
You can have my old rear one if you want:

Re: 2001 Front/rear bumpers
100/each. He said he would not go any lower, but the one's I've found are like 200 for the front, and about 150 for the rear, so I'm happy about it.

Re: 2001 Front/rear bumpers
Ehh, not so sure on the front bumper now. I might hang onto mine for the time being, he said the valance is messed up, and I'll check that out. I'll prob just save that 100 for something else, or save it till I find anotherone.

Re: 2001 Front/rear bumpers
Swapping valances is cake. If your current front bumper has dents in it, but your valance is good. You could buy the new bumper (which looks to be dent free), and put your old valance on the new bumper.

Yeah....but.... it's the same bumper that was on the truck since day 1. It was bedlined and I prepped it good because it took be about 7 hours to strip it all. And my "expiriments" on stipping that stuff left the otherwise perfect bumper really really crappy in areas.
Little dents from the hammer breaking off the bedliner....
Areas where I went too deep with the palm sander....
Stripper stains that I can't get off...
lol.
No thanks on the rear bumper, son. haha.

Yeah....but his proposed new bumper/valence combo are 4x4 stuff....so it's got 'ears'. If he bolts the chrome upper onto his truck, then bolts his stock valence, he'll be left with a weird molded part on the bumper and 4 rectangle 'snap' holes(what the valence sides snap into).

Yeah, I think I'll keep my front for now, nothing really wrong w/ it, my foglight holes are nasty though. Haha.
