Default need help drilling rivets

ok i found some good door handles at a junk yard to replace one of my broken handles. they are riveted on so i tried to drill them out with a regular electric drill with regular bits. that doesnt work at all, the drill bits just slide off and they wont drill out the rivets. has anybody else done this before and can you tell me what i would need to drill these rivets out? i dont want to spend 30+dollars on a new handle when there are perfectly good handles in a junk yard for cheap

take a punch and knock the center of it out first. it's steel pin that is used to clamp the rivet. once that has been done, they will drill out easier. when i removed mine, they came out easy.

use a punch to make a dimple so the drill will not walk off the rivet, very easy to drill

Like they all said. Gotta make a dimple or punch the center out so the bit will sit in there.
