Help needed for welding.
The PO of my 2000 Ranger drilled a hole in the center of the hood near the front & installed a stupid looking hood ornament which I removed which now leaves a 1/4 hole in the hood. I tried several times to weld it closed, figuring I could just grind it smooth & put some gray primer on it except I weld it closed & then each time when I am grinding the weld flush the weld pops out. I have done a lot of welding on my 69 Mustang & have NEVER had this problem welding metal before. I did make sure the gas was on before welding. I do not know what else I can do except taking the truck to a welding/fab shop to have it done. Any suggestions?.
Mike

Re: Help needed for welding.
Your not getting enough penetration on the sides of the hole. Basically the weld is to cold. Some times if I have too take a screw head upside down then cut the excess off

Re: Help needed for welding.
please don't fill holes with bondo. it won't last long. moisture will get behind it, vibrations will crack it out. you'll be left with a hole again. just get it welded up and you won't have to worry about it again!
