Default Replacing roof of a 94 ford ranger

last weekend i was moving from ohio down here to fort hood, where im stationed at, and got ran off the road in dallas and ended up on my roof. flipped the truck back over, fixed the flat tire it got from the ditch it caught, and drove it the last 200 miles that very day lol... now here's my issue, the roof where the windshield is caved in about 3 inches and is crunched... the truck still has alot of life in it mechanically speaking, but selling value is about nill now that shes all dented up. so my thinking is that i could go to a junk yard and saw off another roof and replace the caved in one, it seems simple in my head.. measure, cut, grind, weld, paint.. but i want to make sure before i go jumpin into anything.. Thanks for your help,

Thaddeus Bender

yes the roof is replaceable but its no weekend project. be prepared to pull the windsheild, rear window and other trim peices and drilling out about one billion spot welds to get the old panel off. its alot of work but it can be done. BTW, if you seriously plan on doing this, go to ford and get a replacment roof panel instead of cutting one off another truck at a junk yard.

would be just as easy to replace the entire cab. there is someone on rps that swapped the roof on his ext cab. i think it's in the v8 section.

well i definately dont want to get into the mess of replacing an entire cab, financially or time. and as for going to ford for a factory replacement roof panel. they want over 500 bux for a roof, im not sure how much a junkyard will charge for one, but i deploy next june and am really only trying to get this thing to the point that i can fit a new windshield in it so i can get on post and drive it legally. I'm not sure if the damage is too extensive for a pneumatic hammer or somethin, but i figure it wouldnt hurt me to try that at this point before i start cuttin stuff lol. thanks for the advice guys i really appreciate it and if you have any other thoughts, im all ears

Changing a roof is definatley a pita! Myself I would rather change a cab but here's the problem with that...the vin. Legally I think you would have to use the vin from the new cab or get a rebuilt title.

With that being said I'll bet you can find good deals on older rangers in texas that may need repaired mechanically. Why fix a rust belt truck when you could probably pick up a cheap truck and drop your drivetrain in and you would have a rust free southern truck.

indeed. might think about doin that if i have to. i actually found another ranger bout 5 minutes from where my rents live back home. so i might buy that one, making it my 3rd 94' ford ranger lol. and try the road trip again and see if i can make it down in one piece this time lol. that would be the best thing i think, then just have alil derby fun w/ this truck and take it to the salvage yard afterwards lol. idk, still debating on what to do with her lol
