You can spray that oil based paint, my friend just did it to some guys bronco and all together the paint cost like $12. His body work was pretty bad but the paint came out pretty damn nice. And you don't need to put clear and all that extra crap on. I've seen a few cars around painted like that and they look good and seem to hold up alright.

Tractor paint.
I'd herculiner the whole thing, it probably wouldn't cost $200.
Just the prep time might take a while if you dont have a palm sander

Only problem with that is if you wanted it painted after that and be smooth it won't happen unless you do a lot of work to get it smooth again.

To make flat black paint even and get that nice opaque "eggshell" black look you have to hit it with some wax. Something like tech wax 2 on a white pad with an orbital buffer will do the trick quick cheap and easy.

Seriously though 99% of time it'll come out looking like shit. At least go buy a cheap $15 spray gun at harbor freight, some disposable inline filters, and a gallon of Eastwood "hotels flats" in black, the single stage stuff, or better yet add a 2k clear with a flattening agent.

Best thing to do, especially if you're looking to roll it on, is buy a black Al's Liner kit, enough to do your truck. You can choose from flat, gloss or semi on whatever color, as well as smooth or textured, and normal hard or super hard. It's just another bed liner product, but its seriously the best one you can get. Just as good or really better than line-X, depending on your application. It's huge with the 4x4 crowd for doing the whole truck. You can buy it through 4WheelParts.

Or better yet, save up and pay a professional!!!!!

Just save up for a real paint job, spray paint is going to be a bitch to get off/prepped for a base, clear paint job.
