Default 2009 - Lack of radiator protection

I was washing my truck and noticed some dents in my radiator, due to the new front end design and huge gaps in the front grill. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should custom build to help with this?

Should I use some plastic grating, or go for a stainless steel chicken wire to stop some of the larger rocks that would fly into the grill. I would obviously not want to disturb air flow, but don't want a large rock taking out my radiator either.

Go to Walmart, Lowes or Home Depot, and pick up metal or mesh screen. (the kind that goes in a screen door). Figure out a way to attach it behind the grill. I have had it on the Fusion for two years now. It doesn't restrict air flow at all. But my radiator looks brand new.

Ive seen a few people add the mesh that looked really similar to the stuff on the sides. I have the same problem... 2010 rangers come with inserts on the grille so that's an option too if you don't mind the price tag.

Thanks for the input. The screening is what I had in mind, just wasn't sure if anyone had unique ideas.

I would get a grill insert, but the price tag is what I don't like.

I'll probably frame in some screen or 1/4" chicken wire, paint it black, then attach it.
