To my eye 5000k has an ever so slight blue (almost unnoticeable) while 43-4500k would be pure white. So the Prius I drove def had 5k's.
But this whole color temp thing can be tricky....next time youre in front of an Audi/BMW check out the blueish/purple hue around the edge of the beam. Look at the road in front of the car, and it'll be lit up white like 4300. BMW/Audi lights typically have the "bluest" looking ellipsoids.
The lens refraction in ellipsoid headlights gives the impression of a more "blueish purple" hue than the bulb itself actually projects.
Oh and there is a such thing as 5500k, even if no HID manufacturer makes a bulb in that temperature
