when i was workin on droppin my trnnyi noticed my ranger didnt have any cats and the guy i got it from did no mods at all.... so my question is did ford motor co. even put cats on 89 rangers cause if they did then i need to get one

Anything after 72 model year has a catalytic converter, it is regulation you have them but if they are already not there and your truck is old enough, I'm not sure I'd worry about it. Newer OBD II trucks need cats imho.

I doubt they would have taken the time to run a strait pipe back if they stole the cats. I assume the exhaust is still in tact and gap free.

If you dont have emissions, and you dont have O2 censors behind where the cat is suposed to be (which you dont) then I wouldnt waste the money, unless you are a hippy...Use the money on headlights, or a grille, or a CD player...
