do exhaust tips do anything besides looks??

I think some diesel exhaust tips have some venturi hole to draw in out side air to help cool the exhaust. Not sure on that though. On a ranger they are for looks.

Would cutting the tip back effect the performance on an i4 2.3l in any way like fast slower tiny bit more hp or a tiny bit less? because im thinking about cutting my back under the bed of my ranger.

No you wont notice any change.

The science says that shortening exhaust pipes raise the peak torque rpm, but cutting off an exhaust tip will not yield a drastic enough change to make a difference.

so it wont add anything or take anything away? is it bad to dump it under the bed, and does it make it louder?

I've heard mixed opinions about dumping under the bed, I can't say.

If you take the 90 degree bend out of the end exhaust then it might be a little louder, but its after the muffler so it won't be obnoxious.

ok cause i have a glasspack with a 3in tip on my little ranger and i didnt want to move the tip back and it turn out to be slower and quieter...if anything i want it to be faster and louder.
