i personally dont like that sound. it sounds to, um, crackly?

does the placement of the exhaust effect the performance at all? i think i read somewhere that it needs to have some sort of air flow or something.

yes position matters! if you have the piping running in the stock direction over the axle then you will retain some back pressure. this will help with mpg and low end power from what ive been told. If it comes out the side before the tire or dumped under the bed then there will be a lot less back pressure and then you will have a more freed engine. Mine revs a lot faster now and has more top end power.

I like my glasspack, but i was going to get a 44. so i think either way is fine. i dont know about your ranger but mine had 2 cats in a row after the collector pipe. make sure they atleast take one off.

in my 2.3L duratec I get more back-pressure than I figured I would... but its more noticable in 5th gear on long hills with my foot off the gas than any other gear...

so leaving it in the stock position would be best then right? im not sure what back pressure is.

backpressure is how much the air being pushed out of the engine is being held up in the exhaust due to bends and restrictions. So, the more bends and things like cats that you have the more backpressure you will have. And you can feel the backpressure because it can hold the truck back... I notice when i reduced the backpressure that I had a lot more power from the freed engine but my mpg went way down...

And when i put my 44 in i didnt take any cats out... all 5 cats are still in and then the 44 and then out lightning style... preforms and sounds great coming out of my truck... and my 44 will last forever, glasspacks wear out overtime and get blown out. that sounds terrible when it happens trust me!

i had a monte with a 3800 and duals coming out the back (stock). i replaced them with magnaflows and removed the resonator on it.. when i toook off the res it had lots more power but mpg dropped... so i replaced the res - picked up a bit more backpressure but increased my mpg...

on my ranger my mpg is down 2-3 over stock muffler... I had a glasspack on my 94 ranger and like you said, they wear out in no time at all....

yeah man... the 44 is one of flowmaster's highest flow rate mufflers so that along with just one bend after the muffler is bad for mpg... revs and goes great but im getting 21 max on highway and as low as 15.5 in city... 18 mixed.

lol... i have the same prob with my foot... it weighs too much... and my left foot is really good at dropping clutches too...

my right foot weighs a ton but when im in my truck my left foot isnt all that heavy... my truck is an auto but when i get into my friend's 5 speed my left foot does the same thing with clutches... funny how it works!

i first noticed that my feet were like that the first time i drove along after i got my liscense... weird, it didnt happen when my parents were in the car or during behind the wheel drivers ed... haha
