ok im probably just being a retard about this but i dont understand how an exhaust will help with horsepower. i mean the engine is before the exhaust and thats where the power comes from. well atleast thats what i thought. i would just like an explination on how an aftermarket exhaust will improve anything other than sound.

If designed properly, an exhaust will allow an engine to produce it's maximum potential of power. Too much restriction will choke an engine and too much free flow will reduce torque. It's a balancing act. In short, and exhaust won't realy produce horsepower.

Well, a cat back set up doesn't really do much but make it sound better.. to get a full benefit of more HP from and exhaust it would be to change the headers and the entire pipe system to the back.

Just like any motor, the more air in, the more air you need to push out, with a less restrictive (bigger) exhaust, the air going out moves faster and easier there for creating more hp.

get some pipe, one small diameter one larger, blow through them. tell me which one is easier to get the air through.
