2.3 exhausts
I've got a 2005 ranger 2wd 2.3l and i actually like my stock exhaust. Compared to all the other aftermarket exhaust systems, everything people put on the 2.3 in my opinion sounds way to ricey. Nice idle, but the higher rpms sound way to much like a rice burner. Does anyone have any exhausts that theyve just replaced the stock exhaust with something else and just kept the piping the same? Hows it sound?

Re: 2.3 exhausts
With the 4 bangers I always recommend the flowmaster 40. I've heard it on other 4 bangers or similar displacement (2.2) and it sounds nice. But since I've never have, or every will, put one on my truck I don't have any first hand experience so maybe someone else on here can chime in.
Oh, and search.

I've had both 2.3's, the old Lima and a Duratec. I had a FM40 on the Lima and it actually had a nice sound. The Duratec engines sound more ricey. For whatever reason the twin cam engine sounds like that. Most 8 valve 4 cylinders have a better sound IMO. (S10 2.2L, Jeep 2.5L, etc).
No offense to the Duratec guys I miss mine, but if I could do it again I wouldn't have put a louder exhaust on it.

Re: 2.3 exhausts
The FM 40 or, IMO, even if there's no difference, I'm more partial to the Thrush Welded muffler. This video convinced me to get one at some point. It's not too pissed-off sounding and at idle it seems to have a nice rumble.
