Default Flowmaster 50 ?

Been reading around the exhaust area for awhile and I think it's going to be the next thing I tackle on my 1990 2.9 V6 extended cab Ranger.

My truck has a cherrybomb glasspack with no tail pipe at all (came with the truck not my install ) and I hate it just as much as everyone else does.
And it would seem the consensus is FlowMaster 40 for v6 use. So I jumped on there web page to look around and see the 40 noted as Aggressive Sound. And it notes the 50 as Moderate Sound.

Now I know the 40 will stop making everyone on my block from hating me as much as they do now, But The driveway for my house runs right next to my fathers home and his bedroom. And I hear about my ranger everyday I use it ( Leave for work at 6am and wake him up everyday ). So I ask does anyone run a 50? Does anyone have a video of a 50 running?

Or do you all think the 40 at idle and slow pullout of driveway speed would not keep getting me yelled at? My dad has even gone as far as going to wallmart and buy me an icescraper and window deicer in a spray can in hopes I stop letting the truck warm up and defrost.

Thanx

I'd go with a more restrictive muffler like a Super Turbo or something similar if your concerned with how loud it is. Stay away from high flow mufflers. I guess you could push your truck out of the driveway then start it when you leave your street but that would be a pain in the ass to do everyday.

The 50series is a very moderate tone on the V6s. I had one on my 3.0 and you could barely here any difference between that and stock unless you started romping it. I was very happy with it, with the exceptions listed above. I wanted a little bit more of a rumble but the engine just wasn't capable of producing the exhaust sound/output the muffler needed. I have my 4.0L FX4 Level II now and I'm running JBA cat-back exhaust. Cost is around $200 and I've loved it. Moderate but noticable rumble at idle, nice growl during take off, and very forgiving at highway speeds. It doesn't fill the cab with such a grumble that you have to shout to talk, it's still noticable but it requires the stereo turned down and listen for it. I've never been happier with JBA in exhaust work. Though if you want a much more mellow sound and get as close to the low V8 hum as you can without the volume, go 50series.

just buy you a quiet muffler for about 30 or 40 and weld it then you stll wont need a tail pipe and it will be nice and quiet

if your 50 series was like stock you must have problems with your hearing or you didn't run it long enough lol mines loud. I've had it on for 2 years and it has gotten significantly louder since i bought it

My Super 44 isnt really loud on my 3.0 at idle. Only when I get on the gas hard does it actually let out the roars!

Dont do true duals unless that 4.0 is supercharged! Sounds terrible! I would personally do just one muffler and bring duals out of it. Thats just my personal experience with local rangers though.

Best exhaust I've installed that I've very rarely seen people talk about is the "Thrust Welded" which is just a simple muffler you can buy for around 40 bucks at Advanced Auto, or Pep Boys. I didn't think it would be that good, but my truck sounds like a V8, and I've had several people ask me if it were a V8 in my ranger at gas stations. It will give you a growl.. I went off road with my truck here a few days ago, and ended up knocking the damn muffler off, so I just had it cut off, and am running a straight pipe, its loud, but you can still tell just how restrictive the Catalytic Converters really are. The guy that does my muffler works thinks that putting a 4INCH pipe all the way back, and running fake duals out the back will take away some of the raspy ricey sound, and he said if that don't work he'd weld the exhaust back close to the cat, he said the further back the better, going to try the first thing first. I like the loudness love pissing off the neighbors !

i have been thinking about the 50 too on my 4.0. i want t alittle sounds to where i can hear it, but dont want the nasty v6 loud tone. i had a v6 dakota and it was super loud, but i was 16 so it was awesome, lol. now i realize it does not sound to great unless its a v8.
