Default what's a good muffler?

I want to "mean up" my 01 ranger, so I'm looking for a deep, yet not too obnoxious muffler that will fit my truck with the least amount of work. Bolt on as opposed to weld,.. pros and cons?
Any suggestions would be appeciated. I live in a small town, but there is an autozone about 15 miles away, and there's always ebay.
thanks

well, if you want "mean" go with flowmaster, but if you want a good sound and something that not everyone has, go with magnaflow:

Here's my truck before the intake, it sounds slightly different now, you gotta turn it up, my camera isnt the greatest:

That really depends on your own personal tastes, how much you want to spend etc. If you're on a tight budget I would recomend Flowmaster. here's the site: www.flowmastermufflers.com . They do have systems availible for your truck. Maganflow is good yes but they tend to be a bit more expensive than you really want to spend.

I'm not really concerned about price,.. that's my baby, so I want her to look and sound good. So you think magnaflow is the way to go? Is that a weld or bolt install?

In my opinion, Dynomax/Thrush, Cherry Bombs (except their glasspacks), and Pypes are good mufflers. The only thing with "flow" in it's name that I would buy are Magnaflows. If you really want to go expensive for your baby then go with Borla although I've heard they rust easy. I don't know if that's true or not. And lastly, it's best if you weld the muffler on for that finishing touch.

Flowmaster Super 44. Great rumble, not too loud when crusing, lets you know its there when you get on the gas. Sounds awesome on my 3.0 so if you got a 4.0 then it would be great as well.

Not the greatest videos for sound but you get the picture

Dont be going with a glass pack like a thrush glass pack one of the straight ones or anything like that personally it makes the trucks sound like a ricer and its a truck not a foreign race car... the muffler on mine is a cheap one doesnt even have a name on it not sure where it came from but it doesnt sound ricer at all i think i just need to put bigger pipe to make it deeper and cut off the old rusted pipe thats like a 1'' diameter with about 4 leaks lol but before it had all the leaks my muffler sounded really good. Also my pipe is dumped before the rear axle... I want to go with something like 2 1/4 some people think thats to big but to me its not.. also its not just the muffler its the size pipe that can make a difference. Maybe if i had to buy a new muffler i might get something like a cherry bomb tubo MUFFLER NOT GLASS PACK lol my brother had a toyota 4 cylander truck with 2 inch pipe and it sounded good and sounded very agressive..

Borla's rust? I had a stainless Borla on my '93 Explorer. I thought the advantage of going with stainless was No Rust, and mine never did in the 10 years/90k miles that I had the Borla on the Explorer before I sold that truck.

The only problem that I had with the Borla was one of the hangar brackets broke off, which I had repaired at a local muffler shop for $20. Borla offered to replace the section with the broken hangar, but I didn't want to mess with it.

Magnaflow would be the way to go then. they weld in place.

Cherrybomb Glasspacks sound good. It does NOT sound like a po'ed hornet my 3.0 ranger just quite the opposite.

Cherrybomb sounds good dude on my 3.0. It doesn't sound like a po'ed hornet or foreign rice car. here's a photo of my exhaust which I have to fix yet again:

If he really wants to amp up his ranger then here's a site that most of you will find interesting: www.moranav6racing.com . Click on the products page and your current engine. Basicly yes you can change your muffler all you want sure. But the best way to get the sound and performance you're after would be the Camshaft and cylinder head upgrades for the ultimate sound that you're looking for. Hell he even has a supercharger for the 3.0 V6.

Knightmare do you have any sound clips of your exhaust? I'm trying to decide between cherry bomb extreme or glasspack....

Yeah there's a muffler shop in town I went to. They used to sell Dynomax and Borla but stopped since they had problems with them rusting out so they now sell Flowmaster and Magnaflows. I already started to question these guys about their knowledge so I got a Dynomax muffler, had my friends dad weld it and stayed the hell away from that muffler shop.

I've got a thrush glass pack. Sounds very close to the magna flow. I have been happy with it.
